MINUTES: Minutes of 05/13/04 approved as written.

TOPIC: TREASURERS REPORT

DISCUSSION: Current balance: 1097.20, Funds Committed: 500. Funds Available: 597.20 Report filed with minutes. Pam also shared our budget as shown through grant activity.

TOPIC: IN KIND DONATIONS

DISCUSSION: Pam will keep a logbook of members’ time, materials, etc, that is donated to Manes & Tails. Please email your list to her each month or bring to meeting. These records will help us when requesting matching funds.

TOPIC: SCHOLARSHIPS

DISCUSSION: Request for services for a 9-year-old boy who is quite disabled. He would need an instructor, 2 side walkers, leader and w/chair assistant and possibly a rider mounted along with him for upper body stabilization. Nancy will contact the mom with info on Perfect Ponies and AHPA.  The family is located right in the middle.  Both barns are offering as much support as needed.  Two other needs have been voiced but no written requests have been received yet. One is still trying to reach Fran Gustin.

TOPIC: FUNDRAISING

DISCUSSION: M&T may do a raffle with Northern Maine Trail Blazers.  Deana McBean is pursuing donations for items to raffle at local businesses. Group did brain storming as to items that would sell, grill, camera, DVD, go-cart, tack, quilt (Shelly says save old jeans, she can make a quilt), 50/50 raffle. Any suggestions or help from readers would be greatly appreciated.

TOPIC: GRANTS

DISCUSSION: Pam, Ginger & Shelley attended "Met the Funders" at UMPI on May 19 and Ginger went to the Grant Writing Workshop May 20. Hints: contact the organization, be specific on the forms - several may review different parts and need the complete info, call with questions but be careful not to ask something that is already explained on the form, meet deadlines, have all the facts & figures, make your form stand out so that it is easy to understand, shows need and a worthy cause.     N to contact Limestone for mentoring.  (MUST overcome allergy to ‘red tape’)

TOPIC: RESOURCE DIRECTORY

DISCUSSION: Tabled     FOLLOW UP: Continue this project in September

TOPIC: PUBLICITY

DISCUSSION: Scholarship to be presented at school activity, Riding to the Top informed of scholarship for workshop and of web site. Pam will add "contactWeb Master if problems" on web site. Suewill work on flyer. Shelley workingon redesigning brochure and business cards. Nancy has given out 50 plus brochures. Group did brainstorming to come up with details to grab publicinterest. Need input from readers.  The brochure and business cards will be printed in the fall by a high school print shop. After discussion about the new therapeutic barn in Dixmont, it was decided to send them a card of congratulations, nice job!

TOPIC: CALENDAR OF EVENTS

DISCUSSION:  June 22-24 NARHA Certification Workshop at Riding to the Top, July M&T meeting cancelled. Possible Potato Blossom involvement dropped for lack of manpower.August Meeting at The Carleton Project, 7PM 8/12. MEETING MEMBERS WILL CONTINUE TO CORRESPOND BY EMAIL THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER AND IF NECESSARY, VOTE ON SCHOLARSHIPS THIS WAY.

OTHER:

 Judy Cross helping Aroostook Horse & Pony Associates with practiceteaching hours. Kate McKelvy at Riding to the Top and the NARHA office has also been very helpful in the process. The plan is to have a NARHA Certified Center in Aroostook County to provide services and educational opportunities.
